Elements

An element is a basic unit of construction that cannot be broken down further. Modern science recognizes 118 elements in the periodic table that cannot be further broken down by normal chemical means.

However, various magical and healing systems recognize significantly fewer elements that are defined more like the base essences of creation. In Western classical tradition, there are four or sometimes five elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water and sometimes Spirit, Aether or Quintessence). In Eastern Tradition, there are five; Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal.
